Services.

We use face-to-face or telehealth appointments to provide education, support, and guidance to people living with diabetes.

For those wanting support and guidance after a new diagnosis, or for those with longer standing diabetes looking for a ‘tune-up’.

This consult is done during a one-on-one, 45-minute appointment, much like an extended appointment at a GP. We can cover whatever is relevant to you, be it blood glucose (or ketone) monitoring, healthy lifestyle advice, education about insulin or other injectable medications or ongoing support for those living with an insulin pump.

Interested in whether continuous glucose monitoring (or CGM) could be for you?

From July 2022, all people with type 1 diabetes have access to subsidised CGM. At Diabetes Edge we can help you work out which product is best for you and help organise access to it. We can then show you how to use the device and help you integrate it into your diabetes regime.

For those with type 2, don’t despair! There are products for you to trial too if you are currently using insulin. Get in touch!

Already using, or interested in insulin pump therapy?

Pump therapy can be a real game-changer however there is more to it than just ‘plug and play’! Diabetes Edge can help you decide whether pump therapy is suitable for you, and then help get you started. For those already using an insulin pump, we can help facilitate pump upgrades or organise loan pumps as required.

Diabetes
Technologies

Diabetes Technologies

Managing diabetes is becoming easier with new technologies aimed at reducing the burden of diabetes management and improving health outcomes.

When it comes to diabetes, there are different management options available.

Insulin Pump Therapy

Insulin pump therapy is an alternative option to multiple daily injections for people living with type 1 diabetes.

Continuous glucose monitors (CGM)

Continuous glucose monitors (CGM) are an alternative to fingerstick blood glucose levels.

Ypsopump

The YpsoPump offers several benefits, including improved blood sugar control, reduced diabetes burden, and enhanced quality of life. It offers features of having a small size, having pre-fillable glass reservoirs, remote monitoring and being controlled by the Cam APS phone app (on Android only).

Omnipod 5

The Omnipod 5, Australia's first tubeless, automated, and waterproof insulin delivery system, is now available and offers automated insulin delivery when used with a compatible Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM). It uses SmartAdjust™ technology to automatically adjust basal insulin every five minutes based on CGM readings.

Tandem t:slim pump

The t:slim pump works with Dexcom G6 CGM to deliver Control IQ which helps manage the highs and lows in glucose levels.

Medtronic 780G pump

This pump uses Medtronic CGM and boasts Smart Guard technology with Auto Basal and Auto Corrections to keep you in target for longer.

FAQs.

We get it! You'd like to do a little more research before making your decision to contact us.
Please see the frequently asked questions below and know that we would be happy to answer any additional questions.

Diabetes Edge is a private practice, and therefore there are fees for all consultations.

An initial consult (i.e. for a new patient) is $155. For a subsequent review or a CGM start, it is $145 for the appointment (45 mins). If you have a GP management plan in place (see below), Medicare will cover $61.80 of the cost.

Insulin pump starts and upgrades incur slightly different fees. Please get in touch to find out more.

The Medicare Rebate for a Credentialled Diabetes Educator is available under a General Practice Chronic Care Health Plan (GPCCHP).

Prior to your appointment at Diabetes Edge, you will need to make an appointment with your GP to request a care plan and specify that you would like to assign some visits for Diabetes Education.

Allied Health visits through these plans are limited to five per calendar year.

Some private health companies cover Diabetes Education in their Extras package; however, it depends on your fund and level of cover.

Please contact your health fund for further information.
